Palette Princesses Meet Again

This month the Palette Princesses met at Donna's house. She lives in a wonderful spot along the edge of Mud Bay. It was an exquisite day and we had a great time talking and laughing together. This time we actually talked about the book for quite awhile. When we left I couldn't resist photographing the poppies in Donna's garden. In the photos are Susan, Bobbie, Helen and Pat, Susan and Donna's dog, and Donna, Helen and Pat.

Wood Duck in Scudder Pond

Arvin and I took a walk yesterday evening after dinner. We walked alongside Scudder Pond and down into Whatcom Falls Park. On the way back we met a birder who mentioned that there was a mother Wood Duck and her ducklings in the pond. Sure enough along they came. I got a good shot of the mother but not the kids as it was getting late and the light was getting low. Here she is taken with my Panasonic G1 and 45-200 lens.

Saturday - a walk in Big Rock Park

After a lovely afternoon with visiting friends, Arvin, Steve and I decided to take a walk. It was a beautiful day. The sun was warm and the light was lovely in the late afternoon. We walked up the path through the woods in Big Rock Park to Big Rock Garden where we photographed some of their wonderful rhododendrons. We walked back along the road stopping at Big Rock Pond to photograph the reflections and the lilies. I had both my G1 and my DP1 along and each proved useful, the DP1 for high contrast and detail, the G1 for closer looks at the flowers.

Weather!

And it didn't rain a drop on us. This was our view across the lake on Wednesday, May 19.

Big Rock Garden

I took a walk up the path through Big Rock Park to the garden. I love this walk. It takes me up a wooded path, past the water tower, to the entrance to Big Rock Garden. This is a lovely spot with paths, interesting outdoor sculptures and all kinds of nifty plants. Here are a few photos I took on a walk I took last Tuesday.

The Rhodies are in Bloom

Walked up to Big Rock Garden on Tuesday in search of rhododendrons to photograph. I love that park because it is filled with beautiful Japanese maples and rhodies. They have a wide variety of both. A few of the rhodies were past their prime. Most were either out or just coming out. It was a lovely cloudy day with perfect light for photography. Took my trusty G1 along for the walk.

Battle of the Kittens

They love to tussle. Duma is two pounds heavier than Mehitabel but she still holds her own. And she starts just as many battles as he does. She's a tough little gal!

Mother's Day Brunch

We went out to brunch at Il Posto in Anacortes with my brother Dave, his wife Nora and their son Spencer. Took these at the table before our food came. It was a great way to spend Mother's Day.

Hurdy Gurdy Man

Arvin and I went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday and came across this fellow playing the hurdy gurdy. It was clear that he's been playing this instrument for a long time as he was a master at it. He played complex folk tunes with rhythms that caused me to dance as he played. Everybody at the Market was captivated.

Big and Beautiful Duma

He keeps on growing, our beautiful Duma. He is such an affectionate cat and a bit of a pest too. Into everything but always acting innocent. Who, me? We were saying today how glad we are that we added the kittens to our family.

Bellingham Farmers' Market

Saturday Arvin and I went to the Bellingham Farmers' Market for the first time this year. We just love meandering around the market. We love buying local fresh produce and local arts and crafts and we always meet friends when we go there. And the ambiance is perfect. Happy music and happy people.

Peak-a-boo

The kittens' scratching toy is at an angle with space underneath to bat a dangling toy. There is a round hole on each side. Both Mehitabel and Duma like to reach in and bat at the hanging ball inside. I stuck my Panasonic G1 in one side and took a picture of Mitty from the other side.
