Kittens -- Can't Resist Them

Okay, okay, I know. I've got to find something else to photograph. But really, how can I not take their pictures? They are so darn cute. March 20th was Mehitabel's and Duma's six month birthday. They have totally wormed their way into our hearts. Took these yesterday with my Panasonic G1 and kit lens.

Georgia Pacific

The Georgia Pacific site in Bellingham continues to come down in preparation for a new waterfront area of the city. It's still being decided what can be saved and what must go. The photo above shows the two large tanks and one of the large brick buildings that might survive the rehabilitation of the site. The painting above is the third in my series of paintings to commemorate and document the GP site. When I painted it there were piles of rubble in front of the building. Now the ground is bare as you can see in the top photo. I plan to keep painting pictures of this site. The photos of the GP site were taken with my Panasonic G1 and kit lens. I photographed my painting with my Canon 5D and 70-105 lens.

Glass Paper Weights

I was playing around with my Panasonic G1 the other day and took some pictures of some of our glass paper weights. What makes these special is that three of the four we made ourselves. In December all of our kids and their significant others came for a visit to celebrate Arvin's birthday on December 31. I had arranged a day of working with glass with Ali Hoagland and Will Short. We had a great day and all completed at least one paper weight. I was lucky to do two. Mine are the top photo and the bottom right in the bottom photo. Arvin's is the bottom left. (The other is one we collected a long time ago.) One of the best results of the day is that my son Jason and his wife Meghan are now taking a glass blowing class in Brooklyn near where they live. My brother Dave is planning to be an apprentice with Will and Ali this summer. We really didn't know how great a day of working with glass would be.

Kittens!

Just can't resist photographing the two kittens. They are so cute and they make us smile and laugh every day. These photos were taken yesterday and today with my Panasonic G1.

Eagle in the Air

Today as I walked in Bloedel Donovan Park I looked up to see one of our resident eagles resting in one of the trees. As I was watching he took off. He circled around awhile before heading south over the edge of the lake. What a beautiful bird.

Snow! Again!

This morning we awoke to snow, again! This has been some winter. I walked out while it was still coming down and took pictures of it blanketing our yard and neighborhood. Later the sun came out and I walked down to Bloedel Donovan Park to take more snow pictures on a picture-perfect day. It was really cold and the wind was biting. But it was worth getting a bit frosty to get these photos. I took along my Panasonic G1 and kit lens for these photos. I'm growing to really like that little camera. It's light and easy to use and takes great pictures.

Fiona and Duma

Duma is just so cute... and irresistible. Well to us humans at least. But how about Fiona, Queen of the Universe? Well, she's getting pulled in by his constant attempts to make friends. He's winning I think. These photos were taken on March 8 with my Panasonic G1 and kit lens.

Bellingham in the Late Afternoon Light

Here are some of the photos I took yesterday while Arvin visited with my studio mate Ken Osthimer. The light was really wonderful and I had great fun walking around with my Panasonic G1 and taking photos of my favorite city, Bellingham.

Arvin and Ken in Studio U4

Yesterday we went in to Bellingham early before the Art Walk. Arvin wanted to meet Ken in our studio and look at all his nifty photographic stuff. I took off and took some photos of Bellingham in the evening light while they talked about lenses, filters and who knows what else. Here they are with a fabulous lens that was part of the stuff Ken recently acquired.

Ann and Ken in Our Studio

I share Studio U4 in the Bay Street Building with Ann Wallace and Ken Osthimer. Lately the three of us have been in the studio together working. Ann and I are painters. Ken is a photographer. Currently he's sorting some cool stuff he purchased from a retired photographer. Ann and I have been working on paintings. It's been fun to hang out and work together.

Funny Old Day

It was one of those "Northwest" kind of days. At noon when I walked from Studio UFO to the La Vie en Rose bakery for lunch it was sunny. The sky was blue and beautiful. We stayed and ate and while we were there snow began to fall. The gray clouds that had been over the bay had made their way to where we were and it was cold, snowy and windy when we walked back to finish our Open Studio day. Yet, here is the view from our deck around five. Sun back out. Sky a lovely blue. A few clouds. Like they say, "if you don't like the weather, wait a little." Some days it works like a charm. Took this with my Panasonic G1 and the 14-45 kit lens.

Beautiful Day in Bellingham

It was a spectacular day in Bellingham on Monday. As I walked from my studio on Bay Street to Allied Arts on Cornwall, I had to take a few pictures with my DP1. That camera rides with me wherever I go and is handy when I see something that just has to be caught in digital.

Ken's Tulips

I share a painting studio with Ken Osthimer and Ann Wallace. Ken is a photographer. He uses large sized film cameras to take photos of still lifes that he sets up in the studio. I have permission to sneak a few shots myself. So yesterday I did. I always have my DP1 with me so that's what I used to take this photo. The sun streaming in was a bonus. It was a lovely day!

Evening Light

Yesterday evening we had one of those "Northwest" skies over the lake. Had to take a picture of course. This was taken with the Sigma SD9 and the 18-50 lens.
