Snow!

Wednesday it began to snow. I awoke Thursday to a fairyland of beauty. The sun was shining and snow blanketed everything, even the telephone wires. I got dressed quickly and grabbed my DP1 and 5D and walked out in search of winter beauty. I got back in time to eat a quick breakfast and head down the hill to Studio UFO for Open Studio. What a lovely day it was.

Neuter is Cuter

Spent the day Sunday volunteering at "Neuter is Cuter". It was fun and lots of work too. Local vets, techs, and helpers worked all day to neuter 149 male cats. Some were feral. Most were brought in by their families. It was a hard-working day and everybody was volunteering. Part of what I did was to take pictures. I spent quite a bit of time in the Spay Station, a portable operating room that normally travels around Whatcom County. On Sunday it was parked at Tails-a-Waggin' where the event took place. Here are a couple of shots I took in the Spay Station of one of the volunteers weighing a cat. The vet overseeing work in the Spay Station was Karen Mueller, our own fine vet from The Cat Clinic. The photographs were taken February 22 with the Canon 5D and the 70-105 lens.

Can't Resist Mehitabel

She is just so darn cute! Here she is on a sunny day on top of the cat tower. Taken February 23 with the Canon 5D and 24-105 lens.

Another Beautiful Day in Paradise

Looking out toward Lake Whatcom from our deck, I never tire of this view. Taken on February 19 with the Sigma DP1.

"Uncle" Steve and Duma the Shoulder Cat

The kittens really love my brother Steve. Here is Duma riding around on Steve's shoulder.

Reflections

This afternoon Arvin and I took a walk along Whatcom Creek. The water was running at just the right speed with just the right amount of wind to produce some amazing reflections. I took these photos at a spot above Derby Pond. Taken with my Panasonic G1 and the 45-200 mm lens.

Newest Painting - Bridge Eye View

I finished this painting the day before the Studio UFO Painters Show opened February 6th at the UFO Gallery. The painting was wet during the show so folks were warned not to get too close. It's the latest in my series called "Canals of Venice" and the largest painting I've ever done. It's 36 inches by 48 inches. I really enjoyed working on it and plan to do more large paintings in the future.

Here's Duma

Can't leave Duma out of the new blog. Here he is in all his golden glory. Today I took Duma in for his final inoculation of the year. Had him weighed as well. He weighs 6.8 pounds. He's becoming a big boy. I went home and weighed Mehitabel and she weighs 5.4 pounds. She's growing too but he's growing faster. They were 20 weeks old on Saturday when these pictures were taken.

We've Moved

Hello all. We've moved... not our house but our blog. I was running into space problems because I like to post so many photos so I moved our blog to Blogger. From now on I'll be posting new entries here and this is where you will end up if you enter www.chaikinsofbellingham.com.

If you want to see our old blog, you can find it here: http://apps.chaikinsofbellingham.com/Blog/.

This new blog will have more than just photographs. I plan to include news about us and our family and happenings here in Bellingham that involve us. Please feel free to comment or send e-mail about any of the entries. Hope you enjoy this blog.

Mehitabel in the window

Mehitabel loves to look out the window. I love to photograph reflections. Today we both got our wish.
